Why Care homes ?'

A few years ago, I had an experience that changed my life.

I was asked by a daughter to perform for a Lady suffering from severe dementia.

The Lady's live-in support worker had changed leading to low mood, frustration and confusion.

One morning the gardener was playing some Sinatra and her mood improved as she remembered the good times

and parties her husband had thrown when they were young and called 'The folks that lived on the hill' .

So on a perfect warm and sunny June morning on Highgate hill I played 'The Folks who lived on the Hill' as she and her daughter came out blinking in the sunshine as sat on the bench.

At first the Lady was grumpily asking why she was there, but quickly as began to sing her favourite Sinatra songs, her frown loosened and slowly turned into a smile and then she started to perfectly sing-along with the lyrics before getting to her feet and began dancing with her daughter for possibly the last time, as she passed shortly after.

That memory has never left me and ever since embarked on my mission to bring this experience to as many care homes as possible.'
